Production Inputs
Western Bahia's production input markets are open and competitive. There are many dealers and vendors of seeds, fertilizers, chemicals, limestone and petroleum products.

Seed
All the major Brazilian and international seed companies are represented by dealers in Western Bahia. Many of these companies sponsor field days and participate in seed plot trials and demonstrations. Several of the larger seed companies have joined with other agricultural firms to support the Fundação Bahia, a private applied-research entity (see agriculture research).

Fertilizer, Limestone and Chemicals
Fertilizers are available from a number of local sources, including a fertilizer manufacturing plant located between the towns of Luis Eduardo Magalhães. Some of the larger farmers buy fertilizer in Salvador and truck it to their farms on the back haul from marketing corn and rice.

There are several limestone
quarries in Western Bahia. Currently, local quarries are quoting
a price of about R$85 per metric ton delivered to the farm (within
about 60km of the quarry).
There are also many vendors of agricultural chemicals in the area. All the major international companies are represented plus several Brazilian firms.
